The original Kovac model Harpune is a Paraguayan-inspired, lightweight & compact 26-string folk harp with beautiful tone & lighter string tension. This basic, but very economically-priced (beginner entry oriented) DIY version consists of the harp's body with an open back & no self-standing legs (rubber feet are included). We provide the complete plans, instructions & specifications, and hardware & strings while you provide the wood from the local lumber or big box stores and from online resources, respectively.
The harp's scale starts at its low C and ends about 3.5 Octaves above it (G).
Plans with Full-Sized templates are included. And, we include a supplemental instructional DVD format to assist in assembly using your own provided, choice woods. The DVD also has a section on tuning and playing by ear. The DVD is not necessary in order to make your harp.
The harp is simple to put together & can be assembled in about a day or so using basic hand tools. Stringing & tuning will take several hours more. Surface finishing could take a day or two longer, depending on your chosen finish & method of application.
The HARPUNE also comes with an optional simple plan to achieve sharps and flats, called Taquitos are small dowels set behind certain strings to achieve the semitones. If chosen to be used, they should be installed a few weeks after the harp has settled in.
